When was the last time you wrote on a paper and pen?
Couple of days back I read an interesting article “Give it a big hand “on the local newspaper The Hindu. I had to question myself “When was the last time I wrote on a paper?”, other than taking notes during meetings which were scribbling few words and then once I am back to my seat my hands are back to the keyboard. Thinking deeper the last time I wrote on paper was a letter to the cellular provider in Chennai to deactivate my account as I had to shift to Bangalore. As the article points out kids these days have more exposure to computers very early on and this could definitely have a side effect on the hand writing skills. The worst part is kids will also have difficulty in spelling words as they use the spell check programs. And I also have felt the more use of computers it becomes difficult to all of sudden write on paper, particularly in the Indian context of writing exams where its more essay type answers. It becomes important that parents take the additional responsibility of helping their children with when to use computers for what and when to stick on to the habit of writing using pen and paper.
